From the centre of Porcari, heading south, we reach after more than fifteen kilometres the Compitese area, famous for its camellias that colour the slopes of Monte Pisano in spring. We then pedal along quiet, hidden streets to reach the centre of Lucca after ten kilometres. After passing the beautiful perimeter walls, we return to Porcari, crossing numerous small towns that populate the plain of Lucca.
From the centre of Porcari, the tour takes us to discover some of the most fascinating and rich hilly areas in the area, both from a naturalistic and historical-cultural point of view. After crossing the via Pesciatina that connects Lucca with Pescia, we are in the heart of the hills on the slopes of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. Having tackled the first climb, which in about twelve kilometres takes us from Villa Torrigiani to Valgiano, from where we can admire the spectacular landscape around us, we begin the descent to Via delle Ville. On the flat along hidden roads, we reach the foot of the second hill, from where we ascend to discover the brancoli area and from the top of which we can admire the Serchio river in all its captivating beauty. Once back on the plains, cycling for a stretch along the Serchio cycle path, we return to Porcari after about 15 kilometres on the plains.
