Embarking from the heart of Capannori, our journey commences from the municipal building in Piazza Aldo Moro. As we traverse the Via Pesciatina and venture a few kilometres onward, the landscape unfolds, inviting us to pedal amidst the lush greenery and tranquillity of the surroundings. Guided by the remote Via delle Ralle, we meander through the idyllic Lucchese countryside, immersing ourselves in its serene ambience. Transitioning onto Via Tofori, we are captivated by the charm and uniqueness of the villas dotting this corner of Lucca, each steeped in history and character. Ascending the hillside, we reach the quaint hamlet of Petrognano, where a breathtaking panorama awaits, offering a sweeping vista of the surrounding landscape. Continuing our journey, we traverse the undulating terrain, passing through the charming villages of San Gennaro and Collodi. En route, we encounter the panoramic belvedere of Gragnano—a marvel for our senses, offering expansive views that captivate the soul. Our path leads us to a dirt road guiding us to Quercione, home to an ancient monumental tree steeped in legend. After a well-deserved break amidst the enchanting surroundings, we embark on the return journey to Capannori, descending along gentle slopes and flat stretches, allowing us to savour the memories of our picturesque adventure.
Setting off from Piazza Aldo Moro, our cycling journey unfolds along peaceful secondary roads, ensuring a tranquil ride as we traverse the countryside. After covering a distance of 10 kilometres, we arrive at the majestic Villa Reale in Marlia, a splendid landmark gracing the landscape. Continuing our route along Via di Matraia, we follow an uphill path flanked by towering cypress trees, sprawling vineyards, and ancient olive groves. After 5 kilometres, we arrive at a breathtaking vantage point, offering panoramic views of the verdant hills, the city of Lucca nestled below, and the picturesque Monte Serra and Gherardesca lake before us. Our journey continues with a delightful series of gentle ascents and descents, leading us first to the renowned viewpoint of Valgiano, celebrated for its fine wine production, and then to the charming village of San Gennaro as we approach the spectacular Villa Torrigiani, an iconic photo opportunity awaits, capturing the essence of our scenic adventure. Concluding our exploration, we make our way back to the heart of Capannori, passing through the quaint hamlets of San Colombano and Segromigno in Piano, each imbued with its unique charm and character.
