Embarking from Piazza Garibaldi, this captivating journey unfolds as we venture towards Badia Pozzeveri, a quaint hamlet nestled along the historic Via Francigena. This ancient route traces its origins to the Camaldolese Abbey of San Pietro, a revered institution that has graced this region for centuries. After traversing 20 kilometres of scenic plains, we arrive at the foothills of Mount Pisano, where the charming village of Sant’Andrea di Compito awaits. Especially enchanting in early spring, this locale promises a captivating display of camellia plants, abundant in this picturesque corner of Lucca. Pedalling along tranquil secondary roads with minimal traffic, we bid farewell to the Compito area, journeying back towards the heart of Altopascio. En route, we pass through Orentano, completing our memorable excursion through the serene landscapes of the region.
